The Good. The Great. The Messy

Freelance Life

Making it Count

Phuel Media was forged in doom and gloom years by myself, Sarah Jane. The 2009 GFC gave me an opportunity to explore something I may not have otherwise had the guts to do. Forced to leave the comfy life and chase my big crazy dream, I struck off on my own and been delivering results that look the business ever since.

Founded in 2011 but I have roots that go much deeper. Backed by a diploma in "Making Shit Look Good", I have over 20 years experience designing for clients across Australia, New Zealand and the UK.

Lets be real, it’s not all glam. Some days are smooth and peachy, others stressful and just plain crazy but I believe if you make the creative process an experience - take time for good kinds of distraction - it will ultimately pay off. There’s something to be said about staying inspired, keeping my head in the clouds but feet on the ground.

So if you’re someone who likes their coffee how I like my type... Black...
Welcome, I think you’ll fit right in here.

Creativity, innovation, but also communication and knowledge.

Good design is

I love what I do

Top Notch Creative

and you will too

My madness of a method is really quite simple. I listen actively, asking questions and exchanging ideas. Then round up a piece of blank paper, pen, coffee and take a stroll down inspirational lane.

Why Phuel Media

Easy to get on with, I love collaborating with clients, genuinely taking the time to get to know you on a personal level. It’s not all business! I feel pretty lucky that each day I can do what I love most and working from home provides me with unconditional space for creativity and expression. A stimulated creative is a productive creative!

What I Do Best

Over the past decade I’ve taken my passion to a wide range of clients in various sectors, consistently producing results and gaining respect along the way. I listen and hear your story so that I can understand you, by understanding you I can then sense how best to approach your briefs. Whatever the approach heck… you can count on me to achieve your goal.

My Promise

I’m still just as enthusiastic as my 8 year old self discovering “tickle me pink” crayolas for the first time (25 odd years ago I might add. Yeesh!) and until that passion eludes me, I will continue to crack down on ideas that are strong, relevant and most importantly inspiring for both you and your audience.

Feedback

My creative advice, skills and experience allow you more time to focus on what you do best, your business. The value I bring to clients is continually proven by results, in other words you’re in safe hands!
Have a read through some of the rave reviews to gage an idea of what you can expect.

My Story

A Look Inside

The Curiosity, The Passion, The Drive

Born when I was very young. I'm a designer, a creative Auckland-bred mother of 2 with an affinity for relaxed chic styling, fondness of babyccino dates with my mini’s and what some might call a tenacious drive for excellence.

Curiosity

Mama. Baker. Photographic Hobbyist. Graphic Designer. Sleep Deprived. Pinaholic. Coffee Drinker. Director at Phuel Media.

I grew up youngest of 4, raised by two non-creatives that supported the idea of their sporty little girl pursuing a seemingly impractical career direction. After a dabble in landscape design an admissions consultant took a chance on my under-developed portfolio and I fell in love with Graphic Design – I was hooked.

I didn't get far in design without a love of art, or in life without a curiosity for the world beyond what was around me.

Passion

There are tons of people who have to keep working from home and at the most inconvenient times, but wanting to keep working? Am I crazy? No, passionate.

Certainly I immerse myself in pinterest, lifestyle blogs, magazines and books but often the most unexpected inspiration fueling my passion comes from day-to-day life moments.

Offline, I take photos almost daily, chase after my little terrors like the tiny tornados they are and embrace the simple pleasures like a meticulously organised office space, hot cup of coffee or a long over-due catch up with friends.

Drive

Freelance has given me a career full of opportunity and a smooth transition into working mum - if there is such a thing?!

It's a serious juggle through odd hours, long edits, bizarre briefs and tricky workloads but somehow works in with my crazy little family. I’m in my element and the power of choice keeps me incredibly driven to continue doing what I “choose” to be.

The thing about my story is that it is still being written and everyday brings a new opportunity, and that, my friends, is what we call a win-win.

My recipe for success.
